OLYA FOR ALL IS FOR ALL | MEDIFAB
Olya Pound is one of the most recent models for All is for All. The charismatic, beautiful young woman is the daughter of Ingrid Starnes; an accomplished fashion designer who responsible for incredible collaborations, beautiful garments and dressing some of New Zealand’s coolest politicians. And Olya’s dad is Simon Pound, the ‘business is boring’ boss and ‘man of many titles’ according to Ideology.
We asked Ingrid and Simon if Olya would be interested in taking part in a photoshoot with our supporters and inaugural sponsors Medifab, to our elation, Olya said yes! Medifab Limited is a Christchurch based company, they are experts in wheelchairs and wheelchair seating, having supplied our founder Grace with her seating for 15 years. Wheelchair seating is unique to each wheelchair user and designed to make sure that every person is sitting in the best possible position. Medifab comes from a background of making seating for race car drivers and transitioned to help wheelchair users after seeing a need for sleek, quality seating.
I, Grace, have been going to wheelchair seating appointments and tinkering sessions since I was 5-years-old (my first wheelchair was bumble-bee yellow) as I got older, I cared more about how my wheelchair and seat ‘looked’ – because I wanted to make sure my wheelchair, which carries me out into the world and is the first thing people notice about me, represented who I was well. I have always appreciated that the Medifab team and the OT’s they work with never leave until my wheelchair ‘looks’ its best.
One of the key reasons that All is for All exists is to make change for the next generation of those with access needs so that people like Olya can experience #fashionwithoutbarriers and eventually a world that is accessible too. We cannot thank Medifab enough for supporting us to do that. The work that Medifab does provides thousands of people with the ability to live their lives, seating is not only functional; it is also a mechanism that supports us to achieve, move through the world confidently and have self-agency. These things have a value that cannot be measured. It means so much.
